De acuerdo ala leyenda, una mujer muy bella y vanidosa, casada con un samurai engañaba a su esposo, este furioso y celoso, le corto la boca de lado a lado, la mujer regreso como un yokai, que deambula por las noches cubriendo su rostro con su kimono o una mascara, al toparse con una persona le preguntara si es hermosa si este dice que si, revelara su rostro preguntandole "Y ahora?" si la persona dice que no o grita la matara cortandola en dos, si dice que si, le dejara vivir pero cortandole el rostro igual que ella.
